A one-of-a-kind fully accessible camp is opening, offering people with disabilities the opportunity to partake in everything from zip lines to archery and climbing walls alongside everyone else.

The $34 million Morgan’s Wonderland Camp includes adaptations throughout to ensure that people with all types of special needs can participate.

Located on 102 acres in San Antonio, the property features four climbing walls built to accommodate physical, cognitive and visual disabilities and zip lines with modifications for head support, upper-body support, a removable footrest and the option to bring an oxygen tank or ventilator.

The pool offers a beachfront entry and a warmed area for hydrotherapy and cabins include wheelchair-accessible bunk beds as well as showers and bathtubs.

The camp is the latest development spearheaded by Gordon Hartman who established Morgan’s Wonderland, a fully accessible amusement park, and Morgan’s Inspiration Island, a fully accessible water park, both of which are also in San Antonio.

Hartman was inspired to create the accessible destinations by his daughter, Morgan Hartman, 28, who has cognitive and physical disabilities.

“We believe Morgan’s Wonderland Camp constitutes another of the world’s greatest places for inclusive, barrier-free recreation,” Hartman said. “It features more than 20 major elements including zip lines and a challenge course like none other. Special adaptations enable those with special needs to enjoy these thrilling attractions just like everyone else. All in all, we’re proud to offer our guests an array of activities and facilities in a positive, uplifting environment.”

Morgan’s Wonderland Camp can accommodate up to 500 campers and staff at a time, Hartman said. Family camps will be offered year-round at the site on weekends and the facility will be available for partner nonprofit groups to use during the week.
